How can I stop harassing phone calls and letters from Bill Collectors?
As soon as you file bankruptcy an "automatic stay" (injunction) goes into effect stopping your creditors from contacting you in any matter what-so-ever. The creditors will get notice from the Court in a couple of weeks. However, if you point out to the attorney any specific creditors that are bothering you or garnishing your pay, the Attorney can call and fax them to make them stop the minute you file Bankruptcy.

Some of my creditors have obtained Court Judgments against me, can I still get rid of those bills?
Yes. When you file Bankruptcy all Judgments are discharged as well. There is a complication if your creditors have obtained an "abstract of Judgment" after they obtained the Court Judgment as there may be liens on your property. Your Bankruptcy Attorney can sometimes remove these liens and clear them from your property without payment of any money. This is too complicated to fully explain here. My pay check is garnished, what can I do?
When you file bankruptcy, your garnishment will be stopped immediately upon filing. You must tell your Attorney about the garnishment so he can notify your employer to stop taking money out of your pay.

I owe back Child Support, can I stop the County from taking half my paycheck, tax refunds and bank accounts?
You must always pay your CURRENT monthly child support as it becomes due each month. However, if you owe ARREARS (back child support), Chapter 13 will stop the county from garnishing your check or taking your Income Tax refunds each year. After you file for Chapter 13 protection, the county is only allowed to take CURRENT child support from your pay. You will be able to make a monthly payment on the ARREARS that you can afford and the county will not be able to harass you.
